Leadership Confidence Report
Throughout history, there have been larger life figures such as George Washington, who led the army of his young nation fractured by a battle for independence. Corporate titans like Bill Gates, Warren Buffett, and Steve Jobs have brought employees and shareholders of their organizations for financial success, while others like you and I used our influence to bring family and friends to make improvements in their lives . I would like to emphasize that the key ingredient in all these interactions is that of leadership of the leader-follower relationship.Without this ingredient there would be no independence without organizational success, and no improvement in the lives of our friends and family (in some cases) . But, what compels us to follow a given individual? What's in some people that makes us willing to follow them?
One of the members of my dissertation committee wrote an article that explores the relationship between trust and leadership and the role it plays in leader-follower relationship. His research has revealed that there is a correlation between the level of followers have confidence in an individual's ability to effectively serve their agenda and their willingness to follow his / her vision. Trust is a concept that has a significant meaning for most of us, like many of us have deep seeded issues with the concept derived from childhood and youth.
A family member disappoint us from time to time, the guys make fun of in our youth, or that the first love that broke our hearts can start our unconscious process of erecting invisible walls around us to protect . These walls make it very difficult for many of us to trust others as we try to function in adulthood. This is why many of us tend to be skeptical or distrustful of the intentions of others. However, history has taught us that trust is an essential ingredient when it comes to leadership. So the work must be done from the follower and leader. The follower must work to overcome their barriers to confidence, while the leader must constantly demonstrate the traits associated with confidence to his followers. But, what is the trust as it relates to leadership?
Confidence in the context of leadership means that the follower believes the leader has a shared commitment and ability to effectively lead him / her towards a vision that he / she might not be able to prosecute without the assistance of the leadership and guidance . Trust is at the center of the leader-follower relationship. Without trust, little progress belonging to a vision can be given. Therefore, an individual who wants to lead must establish and maintain trust with their followers.
Here are some of the traits that an individual must have or develop if he / she is trying to establish and maintain confidence in what he / she can bring:
Together for a given movement or cause with the followers.
A vision for the movement or cause.
A commitment to the success of his followers.
A satisfactory level of competence to plan and carry out the tasks necessary to get the motion as assessed and determined by the followers.
The use of fairness when it comes to followers.
The willingness and ability to meet the needs of followers, even though it may mean that sometimes he / she can sacrifice her desires.
The willingness and ability to listen to opinions and ideas of followers.
These characteristics are essential to establish and maintain the leader-follower relationship. Have these characteristics? If not, and your goal is to be a leader then work to do .......
